June features a couple of CD launches for two very different people. The first is a veteran of three CDs, Garnet Buell, the second a relative new comer, Susan Pitre.

Although these CDs were recorded in the fall of 2006 the launches were held off until the spring weather replaced the cold and snow of winter.

The first of these launches features Garnet Buell's new CD, My Old Country Home. On this project Garnet picked some of his favourite songs from his musical idols, Merle Haggard, George Jones and Porter Wagoner along with a few more standard selections to round out the twenty one tracks. The launch will be held on June 9 at the Murray River Hall with a starting time of 7 pm. As with all of Garnet's other launches you can be assured that there will be a lot of fun and music from some local favourites as well as many of the folks that played on the CD such as Gil Nowlan on pedal steel, Glenda Johnston and Saundra Emery on harmony vocals and a host of other, as yet to be announced. Don't forget Saturday June 9, 7 pm at the Murray River Hall for the launch of Garnet Buell's new CD My Old Country Home. For information you can call Garnet at 902-962-3846. Admission goes to the QEH Equipment Fund.

The second launch is for Susan Pitre's CD A Smile And A Song which will be held at the Winsloe Hall on June 10 at 7 pm. This CD, as I said before, was recorded last fall and features a lot of Susan's favourites and encompasses a large variety of musical styles from bluegrass to Celtic. This CD features the talents of Judy Low on keyboard and Jimi Platts on guitar. The variety of selections on this CD goes from Rita MacNeil's “I'll Accept The Rose” and “Workin' Man” to the old Johnny and Jack classic “Ashes of Love” with a stop at Dolly Parton's standard “Coat Of Many Colours.” Susan has a lot of energy and enthusiasm so the CD launch should be entertaining and fun for everyone. So again don't forget June 10, 7 pm at the Winsloe Hall for the launch of Susan Pitre's new CD, A Smile and A Song.

Just another thought before I go for this month. I had the opportunity to go to the Kaylee Hall at Poole's Corner on Saturday May 12. The hall was crowded with dancers and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. As I watched this I wondered, sometimes out loud, if this hall can be so successful what has happened to the dozens of halls that have failed over the years? Charlie Fraser and his staff, mostly family, must be doing something right. Watch for the dances there every Saturday night and the many other events that happen there throughout the year.

Until next time don't forget to support live country and bluegrass music and listen to Bluegrass Island every Sunday night at 9 on CFCY 95.1 FM in Charlottetown and in the net at www.951fmcfcy.com.
