Last summer after playing a show in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia the band Birmingham decided to sleep in their van for the night. When the band awoke the next morning it found the parking lot the van was in had been roped off and the band was trapped in a flea market.

The three members, drummer Andrew Falls, bassist and backup vocalist Adam Major, gutitarist and lead vocalist Corey Doucette, wandered the flea market and found two large stuffed California Raisins. The boys dubbed these raisins Muncho and Joe Chow. Later that night the band decided to burn Muncho, and for the rest of the tour the band had horrible luck. “If you want to buy large over stuffed animals for punching when you're on tour it's great stress relief,” Falls said. “Just don't kill them,” Major warned.

Since then the band has picked up another member, Jordan Walsh. Walsh plays guitar and sings backup vocals. Birmingham has been together for about two years. Doucette and Major played together before Birmingham in a group called Dreams Amongst Stars, while Falls and Walsh played in band called Later Days.

Doucette said the band tries to play both all ages and bar shows but because of booking reasons more bar shows are available to them.

He said a good performance for the group is when everybody is in good spirits. “If we go on stage tired or thinking about a bad show the night before, or something stupid one of us said in a drunken rage the night before it's no good. Just being prepared is the best game plan.”

The group has recently signed with a record label out of Ontario and is planning on touring the east coast, Quebec and Ontario starting at the end of May. Birmingham hopes to release both a new five or six song EP and a music video as soon as possible.

The group doesn't know yet what the title of the new EP will be. “We barely even have titles for all our new songs,” said Doucette. “Right now we're just mainly focusing on the writing,” said Walsh. Falls said the band is focusing on touring and creating a bigger fan base for themselves. “Just basically keeping in touch with the rest of Canada as much as possible.” For more information visit www.birminghamrock.com.
