The PEI 2009 Canada Games Host Society today officially launched a contest to solicit designs for the medals that will be awarded to athletes competing at the 2009 Canada Games, August 1529.
Vice-President of the Ceremonies, Protocol & Hospitality Division, Katherine Kelly said, “We are thrilled to announce this competition and look forward to receiving many entries from a cross-section of Islanders—students, artists, and designers, everyone is invited to submit their creation.” She added, “It’s a great way to become involved in the Games and be part of Island history. The Medals and Flags Committee, led by Jerry Gavin, has done a great job in developing a great prize package for the top designs that are selected.”
There will be a first, second and third place design chosen. These top three winners will receive a commemorative set of Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, plus 2 tickets to either Opening or Closing ceremonies. The first place winner, whose design will actually be used for the medal, will also receive credit in all media whenever the medal design is referenced and a major prize consisting of either $1,000 cash (bursary); weekend trip for 2 to Ottawa to visit the Royal Canadian Mint, or graphic design software.
Interested persons wishing to enter the competition can obtain more information and a submission form by visiting either of the two 2009 Canada Games offices in Summerside or Charlottetown, by calling 1-888-438-2009 or visiting the 2009 Canada Games website at www.2009 canadagames.ca. The contest is open to all residents of Prince Edward Island and closes May 24, 2008 at 4 pm, ADT.
