The Spring Gala and Art Show will take place at the Pilar Shephard Art Gallery, 82 Great George Street, Charlottetown, on May 1 from 6 to 8 pm. Proceeds from the silent auction and a portion of the evening’s fine art sales will be donated to The Kidney Foundation of Canada—PEI Branch. Enjoy the beauty of new works of art and sculpture by local, national, and international artists. You may also enjoy tasty morsels with your wine at a cash bar and bid in the silent auction to support a great cause. To conclude the evening, ladies, as they leave, will receive a long stemmed rose.
The silent auction will feature oil paintings by artist Donald Rodd, entitled “Old Charlottetown” and Andrew Henderson’s, “Sunrise Farm” . Both Mr. Rodd and Mr. Henderson are featured artists at the Gallery. Other items in the auction include: a family photo portrait package, an Island weekend resort getaway package for two, a day-spa package, a summer patio package, golf packages, bottles of wine, a gift basket of soaps and oils, and other desirable luxury items.
The Gallery will also be hosting an exhibit by Adam Sultan titled Meditari. Mr. Sultan, who is originally from Burma, lives on Prince Edward Island and dedicates his exhibition (Prince Edward Island ocean scenes) to his memories of Burma and the Monks and people who have suffered so much.
Meditari—to reflect upon)—to think about something deeply:)—to reflect deeply on spiritual matter,)—to plan, consider:)—meditative—meditatively—meditativeness—medi, tator n.
Adam’s describes his working process as a kind of spiral in which he circles around an idea or cluster of ideas, gradually coming to a resolution or completion. In this process the different formats and media in which he works provide insights into each other. Any given series may take years to reach completion and even then the artist is rarely convinced that a series is complete. Not only does this exhibition illustrate the way in which the series themselves develop, but also the way they inspire and support each other. Images evolve, new ones develop, old ones recur. Similarly, as his ideas develop and change, new themes emerge and old ones are taken up again in a spiral of creative energy. Island harpist, Jill Harris, will provide music.
Anyone contributing $10 will be eligible for a door prize of a dinner for four with two celebrity guests.
