The Friends of the Confederation Centre have announced the fourth annual Mayflower Art FUNdraiser, to be held on May 14, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, at the Studio Theatre in the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

The evening of art and entertainment assists with the funding of the Art-to-the-Schools Program—a unique Friends Program that provides Island students with the opportunity to interact with and study art in their own classrooms.

“Forty schools participate each year, and there are approximately 400 pieces in the collection,” says Heather Doran, one of the events’ organizers. “Funds raised will help add new pieces to the collection, and embark on an exciting new project with the PEI Architects Association to include two sets from the recent 2000 Years of Island Architecture exhibition in the Art-to-the-Schools collection.”

The FUNdraiser will begin with music and an art preview from 7:308:00 pm. Ticket holders will make their blind art selections throughout the evening. Co-hosts for the evening are Greg Doran, Coordinator of Theatre Studies at UPEI and Darrin White, Executive Director of the PEI Arts Council. Back by popular demand are musical guests Tamara Gough and Scott Parsons.

“Last year artists donated 59 original works, and we raised more than $3,000. We hope to exceed those numbers this year,” Doran says. “Please join us for the evening to meet and mingle with fellow artists and art lovers.”
