    Friends of Eptek Spring Tea
    A Spring Tea will be held at Eptek Centre on May 8 at immediately following Eptek’s AGM which takes place at 2 pm. All Friends of Eptek Centre are encouraged to attend and new members may join prior to the meeting that afternoon. No admission will be charged for the Tea. Call 888-8373 to confirm attendance.

    Perfect for the Ladies
    Celebrating Women through the Ages will the centre point of a new fundraiser in support of Digital Mammography at PCH. Red High Heels Productions presents this evening of great speakers, hors d’oeuvres and dinner to be hosted by Marlane O’Brien and featuring speakers such as Senator Libby Hubley, author Betty Howatt, and Media Personality/Breast Cancer Survivor Jan Cox. Visually stunning artwork created by several of the ladies involved will also be on display for the evening. Seventy-five per cent of net proceeds will be supporting a new Digital Mammography Unit that has the potential to touch the lives of every mother, daughter, sister and friend on PEI. This event will take place on May 9 at 6 pm at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. Tickets are $55 each (plus GST & PST) and are available at the Silver Fox, Waugh’s Quik Mart or by calling 436-3176.     Coffee Party

    Macphail’s Mother’s Day meals
    Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead, Macphail Park Road, Orwell, will prepare a fresh, local produced meal at on Mother’s Day, May 11 at lunch (12 noon) and at 5.30 pm.     Lobster plate take-out will be held on Mother’s Day, May 11, from noon to 1:30 pm at St. James Presbyterian Church, 35 Fitzroy Street at Pownal. To purchase tickets please call the church office, 892-2839

    Victoria Day Tea
    Beaconsfield Historic House is hosting a Victoria Day Tea on May 18 at 3 pm in its Carriage House (corner of West & Kent Streets in Charlottetown). The Cream Tea menu is catered by Katherine Burnett of Lady Baker’s Tea Trolley and is described as “a light repast that originated in the southwestern part of England around Devon and Cornwall. It calls only for scones, lemon curd, clotted cream and tea.” However, in celebration of Queen Victoria’s birthday, the menu will also include cake and fresh fruit. The theme of the tea is “Victorian Customs, Fashions & Etiquette.” Seating is limited and reservations are required. Tickets are available by calling Beaconsfield Historic House at 368-6603 by May 15.

    PEI Symphony Dinner
    The PEI Symphony Orchestra will hold their annual Serenade to Spring fundraising dinner on May 24 at the Culinary Institute. Symphony Board members and volunteers have been planning an evening of great food and entertainment. The evening’s festivities will begin with cocktails at 6 pm. This year, silent auction items include theatre tickets, gift certificates, fine, art and treasures from China donated by many island artists, businesses, and symphony supporters. Throughout the evening there will be performances by the Singing Strings and the evening will end with a live auction. For tickets or info call Heather Doran at 626-3864.

    Breakfast and Banter with Very Interesting People, a fundraiser for the Voluntary Resource Centre, celebrating 30 years of service to volunteers, will take place at the Charlottetown Hotel, June 13 from 7:30 to 9 am. The MC is Wade Lynch. Tickets are $30. A full table is $270, (nine guests). VIPs include historian David Weale, Poet Laureate Davis Helwig, Montgomery expert Betsy Epperly, UPEI president Wade MacLauglin, Lily lady Nancy Oakes, author Deidre Kessler, Historian Dutch Thomson and others.
