  • 2008 PEI Wine Festival

The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission has announced that the 2008 Wine Festival has been scheduled for May 30 and 31 at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. They say timing of this Festival is ideal for both permanent licensees and the summer operators who come to this Festival in the hopes of upgrading their wine lists to meet a more demanding tourist consumer in this province. The licensees and are well informed about the Festival whose marketing focus is aimed directly at the wine customer.

Grand Tasting of more than 180 wines from the great wine producing regions of the world will be available at tastings May 30 and 31 from 710 pm. Tickets are available at the liquor stores or the Commission office mid-May.

The PEI Wine Festival continues to grow and expand and promises to make the 2008 Festival, the 14th Annual, the best one yet. As was the case last year, the Art Exhibition and Silent Auction in support of a local charity will again be included in the Festival. Organizers say these additions have been a neat fit to the show and portray Wine Festival participants and the Commission as ideal corporate citizens while at the same time enhancing the overall Festival. They have secured a number of outstanding items for the silent auction. Half the silent auction items will offered on Friday evening and the remaining at the conclusion of the Saturday evening tasting session. All proceeds are going to the PEI Hospice. Works of art from some of PEI finest artists will be on display during the Wine Show and are available for purchase directly from the artists.

The PEI Liquor Control Commission will once again open a temporary wine store at the Wine Festival site where all the 2008 Wine Festival Wines will be featured at a 15 per cent discount.

The Culinary Institute will again be the host for this year’s “Wine Makers Dinner” on May 29 at 7 pm preceded by a reception at 6 pm. The tickets for the dinner can be secured by calling Rose Hines at the Culinary Institute (902-894-6868) or by e-mailing rhines@hollandc.pe.ca.
