    PEI Environmental Awards
Islanders will have the chance to honour the environmental leaders of their community with a nomination for the 2008 Prince Edward Island Environmental Awards. The awards, to be presented during Environment Week in June, recognize those who work to protect and enhance the PEI environment. New this year is the St. Teresa’s Environmental School Challenge to honour those schools and classes who make environmental stewardship part of the learning experience for young Islanders. The deadline for nominations for the 2008 Environmental Awards is May 1. Nomination forms are available at www.gov.pe.ca/go/award, or 902-368-6920.

    Financial fitness savvy
Charlottetown student James Martin has won a $750 scholarship for proving his financial fitness savvy, and teacher Susan Joy Nowe is the recipient of the $1,000 grand prize for teachers. The Colonel Grey High School student participated in the “Financial Fitness Challenge,” an on-line contest featuring questions and information on budgeting, saving and investing. Student winners were randomly selected from eligible quiz participants. Information about the fitness challenge, and other money matters of interest to youths, can be found at the website: www.FinancialFitnessChallenge.ca. www.gov.pe.ca/securities

    Photo Award
In March, the 6th edition of the Bridgestone Photo Contest, a national competition, awarded a total bursary of $39,000 divided between two national winners and the top three photographers of each of the 12 Canadian competing educational institutions. Holland College student Spencer Birt received a $1,500 cheque for his winning entry.
