There is a new look and new content on the website of the PEI Jazz and Blues Festival, presented by Atlantic Turbines.
Festival organizers say they wanted to bring their website “home” by using Island-based graphic artists and web-designers. “We’re able to quickly upload new material and we have much more flexibility in shaping the look of each page,” said festival co-chair, Doug Millington. “In the process we’ve also lowered the cost of producing and maintaining the site.”
One of the features added to the new site is the ability to allow visitors to watch segments of past festival performances. In the “Archives” section of the site visitors can watch video captured from the onstage screens during mainstage events. Of special interest will be clips of the late Doug Riley, who occupied a prominent position in the festival’s schedule each year.
The long-term aim of offering streaming video, according to organizers, is to feature a wide range of performers with an emphasis on Island and Maritime artists, including the Ian Toms Trio (Ian, Paul Vienneau, Richard Knox) and the Festival Big Band performance of Phil Nimmons’ “Atlantic Suite.”
The PEI Jazz and Blues Festival, presented by Atlantic Turbines, will be held in downtown Charlottetown July 10-13. The full artist lineup will be released in mid-May. A Festival Launch Party is planned for May 31 at the Confederation Centre’s Studio Theatre.
