    Music PEI will hold its 2007-2008 Annual General Meeting May 7 at Sobers Music in Charlottetown on the Trans Canada Highway. The meeting begins at 7:30 pm and should finish by 9 pm. Among some of the items on the agenda will be: election of new Directors to the Board; review of 2007/08 financials; funding program update and new initiatives update.

    The deadline for the next round of Music PEI funding programs is May 15 at 5 pm. All submissions must be received at the Music PEI office by that time or they will not be eligible for consideration. Details, guidelines and funding applications can be found online at www.musicpei.com. The programs are designed to assist artists and industry professionals in their pursuit of a career in the music industry and provide funding for a variety of activity including demo recordings, professional development, marketing, product development, tour and showcase support. Funding for this program has been made possible by the Provincial Department of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour.

    Music PEI will be at Old Home Week in Charlottetown this year with the Best of the Island Showcase stage. This is building on the success of last year and is an opportunity for Island artists to perform to a diverse audience. 16 acts will be featured between August 7 and 16. These slots will predominantly feature acoustic based, roots, singer songwriter acts. If you are interested in showcasing, Music PEI will be accepting submissions until May 16.     It’s official—PEI Music Week will be held in January ‘09 the week of January 12 culminating with the 8th annual PEI Music Awards Show at the Confederation Centre of the Arts on January 17. PEI Music Week will feature seminars, showcases, a songwriters feature show and the Gala award show.
