Anne & Gilbert, The Musical will have a whole new look this year with the addition of ten additional characters, bringing the cast size up from sixteen to twenty-six. The addition of a young company of ten of PEI’s finest young performers will add to the vitality and excitement of Anne and Gilbert, say producers. Production numbers such as “Island Through and Through” and “Gilbert Loves Anne of Green Gables” will now feature twenty-six actors on stage. The ten members of the young company were selected at auditions in February, and are now beginning preparations for this summer’s production. “All of these performers have a bright future ahead of them, so we are thrilled to have them Anne and Gilbert this summer,” said Director Heidi Ford.

Anne & Gilbert begins its run at the Jubilee Theatre on June 24 and continues until October 4.

Anne & Gilbert the Musical will tour some of Ontario largest theatres this summer and fall, as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the publication of Anne of Green Gables. As many as 70,000 theatregoers will see Anne & Gilbert performances during the Ontario and PEI performances in 2008.

The tour will begin with a three week run at the newly renovated Grand Theatre in Kingston Ontario, and move across Ontario to prestigious venues including the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, the Markham Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Bramptom Centre for the performing arts. Other Ontario cities which will see Anne & Gilbert performances include Ottawa, North Bay, Guelph, Barrie, Huntsville and Lyndsay. In addition, Toronto performances will also be announced in the coming weeks.
