The Island Media Arts Co-op (IMAC) has announced that acclaimed documentary and experimental filmmaker Richard Hancox will be on PEI during the week of May 14–20. While on PEI, Mr. Hancox will instruct five emerging local filmmakers who are participating in the IMAC Masterclass Workshop Series. Mr. Hancox will host a Reception at the Kier Gallery on May 15 at 7 pm where masterclass participants and the general public can meet Mr. Hancox and view a selection of his photographic work. Mr. Hancox will also hold an Art talk at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Gallery on May 20 at 7 pm. The public is invited and encouraged to attend both the Reception and Art Talk.
Rick Hancox was born in Toronto, but grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and Charlottetown, PEI. After a 25-year career as a Canadian filmmaker and professor at Sheridan College and Concordia University, where he teaches Production, Canadian Documentary, and Film, Time & Memory in the Communication Studies Department, Hancox returned to still photography. Since 2000, Mr. Hancox has been taking pictures exclusively with disposable, one-time use (non-digital) cameras.
The IMAC Masterclass Series is an program in which five emerging filmmakers, Trisha Clarkin, Louise Lalonde, Jeremy Larter, Patrick Ledwell and Dennis Trainor are given the opportunity to go through the rigorous process of creating short films and videos. www.islandmedia.pe.ca.
