Derek Edwards’ new one-man show, The Other Shoe Drops, is a 90-minute unguarded moment with a Canadian comic icon. With his unique curve ball delivery and inimitable quirky perspective, Edwards probes the Myth of Maturity…peeling back the carpet/façade of adult behaviour to reveal the perfectly good hardwood floor of truth and belly laughs.
A ten-year vet of the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and the only Canadian to win the prestigious Vail, Colorado, Invitational Comedy Competition, Edwards is considered to be among the top comics in the country. Certainly his peers think so, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee and recent winner of Best Standup Comic—Canadian Comedy Awards, and by his Best Performance In A Comedy nomination at the last Geminis.
Edwards’ gentle brand of humour, delivered with an ever-increasing incredulity as he delves into the oddities of everyday situations, has been showcased on A&E’s Comedy Hits the Road, CTV’s Comedy Now, CBC TV’s Comics (garnering him another Gemini nomination for best comedy) and CBC Radio’s Madly Off In All Directions. He was also a regular guest on the Red Green Show.
Derek Edwards performs May 23 in Summerside at the Harbourfront Theatre, and May 24 in Charlottetown at Confederation Centre of the Arts. Showtime is 8 pm.
