Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble plays for SoPA
As part of a winter-long series of benefit concerts, the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble will perform on March 20 at The Pourhouse to honour and support Holland College’s School of Performing Arts (SoPA).
Founded in 2010, SoPA offers courses in music, dance and theatre arts. SoPA has forged innovative partnerships with the Confederation Centre of the Arts and the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Already this winter the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble has performed concerts supporting Anderson House and the Canadian Mental Health Association. In past years the band has raised funds for the QEH Foundation, Syrian refugee relief, the Colonel Gray band program, The PEI Jazz & Blues Festival and the Dan St. Amand Memorial Scholarship and has also sponsored awards for deserving school band students.
The 19-member Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble, now in its 22nd year of performing, presents a mix of contemporary charts and classic standards. Band members range from promising students to seasoned professionals.
The concert will begin at 7:30 pm and will be all-ages (with adult accompaniment). Doors open at 6 pm.
