Wright's Creek Interpretive Walk

June 2

The Hillsborough River Association and the Wright's Creek Watershed Environmental Committee invite the public to an interpretative trail-walking event on June 2. The hike will begin at 9 am at the East Royalty Parkman Soccer Complex parking lot at 62 Robertson Road in Charlottetown. Most of the 4.3 km route will be along City of Charlottetown trails except, for this event, there will be a tour of the privately owned, circa 1800, Bird Island/Belmont/Wright's/Andrew's watermill site. The mill site is steeped in history with a 22 foot high, 215 year old milldam, waterfalls, and many artifacts and photographs from the milling and ice cutting past. Free refreshments will be served at the mill site (please bring your own cup.) The walk will circumnavigate the salt marsh portion of Wright's Creek between the Hillsborough River and St. Peters Road. Volunteers will be on hand to point out birds and plants seen along the route and to discuss the area's history. Binoculars may be useful. The trail surface is a combination of clay, pavement and short grass and is easy walking with no steps or steep inclines. A one block long section of the walk will be along Cambridge Drive on the way back to the Parkman Soccer Complex. Raindate is June 9.
