A Passion for Nature at Gallery 18 in New London
Gallery 18 in New London has announced its headline exhibition and sale for the 2017 season. The show is titled, Thérèse D’Amour—A Passion for Nature, and features more than 40 original works from the artist’s estate.
Thérèse was born in 1921, in Matapedia, Quebec. She studied Bioengineering earning both a B.Sc. and a Masters degree. However, from an early age she also maintained a passion for art. Writing in 1992, Thérèse said as a child her “favorite game was drawing.” Although mainly self-taught, Thérèse attended workshops with many artists including Molly Lamb Bobak. Thérèse D’Amour died in O’Leary in 2013 at the age of 92.
Of her work she said, “My work tries to capture aspects of my world-overview. I particularly love trees, their shapes, their character, their revelations of our physical world. Even when not present in one of my works, to me their absence is heard. They always line the path to where I want to go.”
