The Girl by Grace CurtisWyatt House and Lefurgey Centre celebratre 150 years

This year Canada is not alone in celebrating the 150 years milestone. Two of Summerside’s historic buildings, the Lefurgey Cultural Centre, and the Wyatt House have graced the city’s streetscape for that period of time. Both were built as private homes back in 1867, but with the passage of time took on new roles as public buildings. In the mid-1960s, Wanda Wyatt converted her grandparents’ former home into the Lefurgey Cultural Centre with the goal to promote and celebrate the arts. In 2000, her foundation gifted the centre, along with Wyatt’s own home, to the City of Summerside. Not only was the house gifted, but its entire content of fine artifacts.

To celebrate the anniversaries of the houses, twenty artists were invited to select an artifact or artifacts, within the collections, and bring them to life through a work of visual art. The exhibit now hangs in the drawing room of the Lefurgey Cultural Centre. It will remain on display to September 29. It can be viewed free of charge, Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm to end of August, and then Monday through Friday to September 29. The Lefurgey Cultural Centre is located at 205 Prince Street, Summerside.
