Susan Fehlinger wins Gala Prize
Forty four artists participated in The Montague International Plein Air Festival June 12 to 16. They combed Kings County for that stunning sea or landscape to capture on canvas.
Over $2000 worth of prize money was awarded by this year’s guest judge, Brian Lorimer, artist and owner of the Lorimer Gallery in Charlottetown. Susan Fehlinger from Bridgeport, Conn won the Gala Prize of $1000 for her painting of the “Cardigan Feed Mill.” Sandi Komst, Beach Point, won Second Prize for her painting “Boat at Newfrage.” Judy Max Smith from Gaspereaux, won Third Prize for her depiction of “Lifeguard Chair” at Basin Head beach. Best Watercolour Award went to Debbie Misener, Mount Stewart and Best Use of Light award went to Carolyn Vienneau, Pictou, Nova Scotia. The People’s Choice Award went to John McCallum, Charlottetown for his painting of “Wood Islands Lighthouse.”
The festival is hosted by PEI artist Audrey Bunt. She says, “The event keeps growing every year…Out of the forty four participants 19 were from off Island…The focus of the festival has always been the camaraderie between the artists…We are self sustaining, the registration fee covers the costs. But the potential for the festival to grow and become a major event in the region is there. We would happy to partner with any group, who would like to enable the visual artists to grow on the Island.”
