Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Chris Palmer and singer-songwriter Jenni Roberge chat about some of the music videos she’s produced over the years. Roberge is one of twelve successful applicants to the provincial Arts Grants program.

Twelve Island artists awarded provincial assistance

Singer-songwriter Jenni Roberge will produce three live-performance music videos with the Atlantic String Machine with the $5,000 Arts Grant she received from the PEI government. Roberge is among 12 Island artists who recently received a total of $50,000 through the provincial Arts Grants program.

The PEI Artist Grants funding program was designed to support the development of artistic practice of PEI artists through a competitive award system. 

The successful applicants were selected by a six-member jury of their arts community peers and follows the same model used by the Canada Council of the Arts. The jurors were: Nancy Cole (Visual Arts), Sylvie Toupin (Craft/Arts Administration), Megan Stewart (Theatre/Performance), Brandon Hood (Music), Richard Pellisier Lush (Traditional Indigenous Arts), Laurie Brinklow (Writing/Publishing).

Successful Applicants are:

Millefiore Clarkes and Davy Weale

Creation, Film, $4200
This project will support the creation of a short documentary film “Evelyn”, about the indomitable Island character Evelyn Christopher.

Kinley Dowling (KINLEY)

Creation, Music, $7500
This project will support the creation of an all new, six original song EP called “The Quiet One.”

Gerald Beaulieu

Creation, Visual Arts, $7500
This funding will support the creation of a new series of large sculptures with the working title “Fallen.”

Anna Karpinski

Professional Development Grant, Visual Arts, $2500
This funding will support the attendance of the Frankfurt 2018 Bookfair.

Rilla Marshall

Creation Grant, Craft, $4000
This project will develop and produce a new body of textile-based artworks charting the territory of the artist’s experience of new motherhood.

Margot Rejskind

Dissemination Grant, Music, $2500
This funding will support the rehearsal and performance of a choral program of curated works by PEI and Atlantic Canadian composers.

Mathias Kom (The Burning Hell)

Dissemination Grant, Music, $2500
This funding will be used to support the costs of a three week European tour to perform the band’s latest work “Revival Beach.”

Jane Ledwell

Creation Grant, Writing/Publishing, $7500
This project will produce a book-length manuscript of creative non-fiction based on interviews and personal archives of a fascinating Islander with a dramatic story of survival.

Lindsay Connolly

Professional Development Grant, Music, $4000
This funding will support the artist’s attendance of the Stratford Music Festival’s Vocal Academy.

Damien Worth

Creation Grant, Interdisciplinary, $3000
This project will produce a new body of visual artwork that examines the structural presence, metaphorical significance, and historic lifespan of harbours of PEI.

Jennifer Roberge (Jenni and the Hummingbird)

Creation Grant, Music, $5000
This project will produce a series of three live music videos performed by the artist, accompanied by The Atlantic String Machine.

Pastelle Leblanc (Vishten)

Dissemination Grant, Music, $2500
