Boarding and daycare for pets in O’Leary

Way Up West
by Jan Cox

Feelling good with freshly-clipped nailsAfter studying with Blanche Cormier in Moncton, and working at the O’Leary Vet Clinic for several years, Island Spaw owner Tamara Currie ventured out on her own in 2010.

“My confidence wasn’t there on the business side of it all. But my husband truly believed in the future of my success. With loans, support, training and guidance through CBDC, and a clientele base that was very supportive, my excitement was explosive with the ideas that were rolling around in my mind about the different services I wanted to explore and offer,” stated Tamara.

The focus of Island Spaw & Kennels has always been safety, comfort and fun. The boarding and daycare aspect of the business has really built up in the last two years.

“Our clients always tend to mention their minds are at ease knowing they (their pets) are in our care,” said Tamara. “We have fur babies who travel from as far as Charlottetown but also have clients from across Canada and the USA who call and pre book when they are travelling home (to PEI).”

Along with three dog runs, one large community yard (with potential expansion in the next year) and four kennels, Tamara offers blueberry facials, deshedding, proper trims, nail trimming and buffing, hair colour, bling, soft paws, daycare, photography (at an additional fee), Spa shampoo, colognes and the proper grooming tools for home care in between sessions.

“We love to bling things up with our homemade gem collars, feather extensions, bows, nail paint and higher end pet fragrances,” she commented.

Contact Tamara at 902-726-2016, 43 Parkview Drive in O’Leary or find her on Facebook.
