Charlottetown celebrates with historic photo exhibit

Councilor Greg Rivard, chair of Planning and Heritage committee and Natalie Munn, Heritage Researcher (photo: submitted)The City of Charlottetown is celebrating the holiday season with a historic exhibit entitled Season’s Greetings. The historic display contains a variety of photos from the City’s archival collection, antique toys from the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation and City staff, as well as catalogue covers and ads from the past.

This is the latest installment of the Picturing a City. The historic photo exhibit series focuses on an aspect of the City’s history and displays photos from its archive in the windows of the Planning and Heritage Department at 233 Queen Street.

Staff have opened up the City’s archival collection and chosen some fascinating photos from many different eras and locations all over Charlottetown. The public is invited to take a walk along the “City sidewalks” and see what an “old fashioned winter” looked like, discover the hot toys of yesteryear and find out what else those catalogues were used for after Christmas was over.

The City would like to thank all of the individuals who have generously donated the images and antique toys to make the exhibits possible. For more information on donating photos or allowing them to scan your images, please call 902-629-4051 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. The exhibit runs into January after which, a new exhibit will be launched in the space. All exhibits will be posted online.
