Canadian Parents for French PEI, a branch of a National network of volunteers, which promotes and creates opportunities for Canadian youth to learn and use French as a second language, has announced the winner of its Educator of the Year Award for the past year. The award is presented annually to a person who has shown exceptional support and dedication to the quality and availability of French language programs in PEI schools. This year’s recipient is Krista Gallant, a French Immersion teacher at Sherwood School, Charlottetown.

A fellow teacher wrote: “On a personal level, Krista is a passionate advocate for her students. She will do everything in her power to ensure that all her students are getting the help they need, by spending time during her recess and after school tutoring them, applying for grants to increase the help she receives in class, and by always planning interesting and engaging lesson plans for her classroom.” From a parent, “Krista is one of those special teachers who students love because she is kind, loving, fun and caring. She finds a way to develop a special connection with all her students.”
