On July 19, Children’s Wish Foundation, PEI Chapter, will be granting Haley Matheson’s most heartfelt wish, a camper trailer. In Haley’s words, “Because my illness was not just rough on me, but also on my brother and mother, I’d love the opportunity to spend quality time together as a family.”
Haley will be presented with the trailer in the company of friends, family, sponsors, stakeholders and volunteers, in addition to the HMCS Charlottetown team of sailors running a cross Island relay race in support of Children’s Wish. The “Run for Wishes” participants will be completing day 3 of their journey and joining the presentation in the Sobeys Stratford parking lot at 3:15 pm.
Children’s Wish wants to sincerely thank their generous donors who allow them to grant wishes for children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. At the age of 15, Haley was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a rare disease that causes deficiencies in all three blood cell types. Haley received a life-saving bone marrow transplant from her brother, Reece, in February, 2017.
Each wish is carefully structured to meet the particular needs of the child and their family. Since 1987, the PEI Chapter has granted 255 wishes.
