PEI Lands Protection Act

The provincial government has amended the Prince Edward Island Lands Protection Act Regulations to allow the exemption of qualifying environmentally sensitive lands from limits on ownership by individuals and corporations. Under the changes, landowners can exempt areas such as wetlands, high sloped lands, land used for erosion control structures, forested land and buffer zones from their aggregate land holdings.

Phyterra Yeast Inc. to Expand

Phyterra Yeast Inc. will expand to a larger facility in Summerville which will allow the Charlottetown-based company to develop its own production capacity. ACOA Minister, Keith Ashfield, Minister Allan Campbell and Garth Greenham, President of Phyterra Yeast Inc., made the 4.9 million dollar announcement recently. The company manufactures functionally enhanced yeast products and veterinary biologic products.

Summerside Raceway

Funding for $275,000 in enhancements to the Summerside Raceway has been announced. The upgrades include a new paddock barn with 27 stalls, a testing facility, washrooms and office space. The City of Summerside has developed long-term plans to grow the horse industry on PEI. The historic Summerside Raceway has been a gathering point for Islanders for over 120 years.
