Donation to 4-H PEI

Invasive insect

Emerald ash borer

Emerald ash borer (EAB), a non-native and invasive insect that kills ash trees, has moved into Atlantic Canada.

The City of Charlottetown has partnered with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to install traps in six locations throughout Charlottetown to monitor for the insect. The traps, which are being placed on City property, are suspended high in the ash tree canopy.

Community Revitalization

The PEI government has announced the first 3 projects to be approved under the new $2.5 million Community Revitalization Program. The government has committed new funding of $21 million for projects, events, and community capacity building. This new funding will support: Projects that address racism and discrimination with a focus on Indigenous Peoples and racialized women and girls; Events that promote intercultural and interfaith understanding, and celebrate a community’s history and culture, such as heritage months

AccessAblility Supports

Expansions to the Disability Support Program, now called AccessAbility Supports, will include a coordinator to help clients navigate the system, job coaching and skills training, increased financial help for home and vehicle modifications, and a toll-free number as single point of contact. Conserving grassland birds

ALUS Canada and the Government of PEI have signed a landmark agreement to help conserve threatened grassland bird species on PEI. The funding of $90,000 over 3 years will be used by PEI ALUS to support farmers to delay their first cut of hay until July 15, after fledging grassland bird species have left the nest. The annual payment of $25 per acre recognizes the value of the ecosystem services

Hemodialysis unit

The PEI government is investing $500,000 through its capital budget to create a better-equipped, more spacious hemodialysis unit within Western Hospital. The design will be based on best practices for the delivery of dialysis services, as well as patient confidentiality, infection prevention and control standards.
