Bloomfield Farmer’s Market to open in July

There was not an existing Farmer’s Market in West Prince. A group of interested and dedicated local business owners met in 2008 and from that meeting grew the Bloomfield Farmer’s Market. Rohan Dean, owner of Bloomfield Orchard had the building, the parking space and the property. The local businesses had the enthusiasm and the vision. Put all these ingredients together along with strong support from surrounding communities, and you have a thriving summer market experience.

The market runs every Saturday morning for 8 to 10 weeks mid-July to early September, with over eight vendors. There is room for expansion if people are interested in joining, including Young Millionaires. One loyal customer tells me she can’t wait. “It’s such fun. A place to meet your neighbours and friends, and pick up some really fresh veggies and look over the other stands, seems there is always something new.”

There is plenty of variety to choose from. This season’s committed vendors to date include: Clohossey Farms, strawberries and fresh vegetables; Webbs Fresh Vegetables; Buote’s Seafood; Leila Lynch breads, baking, jams and jellies; Bloomfield Orchard seasonal fresh fruit; Dean’s Apple Cider; Maria’s Snacks, homemade fudge, peanut brittle etc.: and Shea’s Blueberries.

Barry Clohossey is pleased to be returning. He says, “It’s a great little market. We’ve got good exposure on the highway opposite Kent at Bloomfield corner and we thank our many loyal customers for supporting local over the years.” While most of the vendors are inside, there are tables outside overlooking the orchard.

As corny as it sounds, the bustling Bloomfield Farmer’s Market does feel like a family gathering on Saturdays. It’s a family friendly, happy spot located on Highway 2 just after the Bloomfield Mall in West Prince. Visit them on Facebook—Bloomfield Orchard.
