Promotion helps United Way help others

Deanna Carroll and David Webster from the United Way of PEI with Fresh Media President Melody Dover (left) thank participating restaurants for supporting the Give Back Burger promotion and announce the launch of new Island Food Security Grant Programs resulting from its success.A number of Island Food Security Grants will be available from United Way of PEI thanks to the 2017 PEI Burger Love campaign and Island-wide restaurants that supported the Give Back Burger promotion. The initiative saw 36 of the 2017 PEI Burger Love participating restaurants raise over $60K to increase access to local, affordable food for Islanders.

Grants to a maximum of $5,000 each will be made available to charities across PEI to support individuals and families living without access to abundant and affordable food today. A call for grant applications was issued in August 2017.

With support from the United Way and the City of Charlottetown, funds allocated to the Let’s Talk Food initiative will be directed to developing Island-wide food security strategies facilitated by the PEI Food Security Network. Funds allocated to the PEIFest’s Youth Social Entrepreneur Conference encouraged youth to develop innovative ways of addressing food security through entrepreneurship.
