United Way of PEI announces Island Food Security Grants
The United Way of PEI has approved funding for 10 Island Food Security Grants made possible thanks to the success of the 2017 PEI Burger Love campaign and the 36 restaurants that supported the Give Back Burger initiative.
The Give Back Burger initiative saw participating restaurants donate $1 for each burger sold in April to the United Way of PEI raising funds to support programs that increase access to local and affordable food for Islanders. “We are very excited to be able to help the people of PEI gain access to affordable, nutritious food by supporting this granting program thanks to Fresh Media and our 36 partner restaurants,” states Andrea MacDonald, CEO for the United Way.
Funds will be distributed to the participating organizations for activities to begin in April 2018. Island Food Security Grant Recipients are: Summerside Boys and Girls Club; PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada/Farmers’ Market; Farm Centre; Hospice PEI; Stars for Life Foundation for Autism; The Adventure Group; Native Council of PEI; Family Service PEI.
