Island musicians interpret decades of pop music at Watermark

Watermark Theatre has announced the Classic Music Reignited programming for the 2018 season. In its 5th year, the series features Island musical artists interpreting classic composers. This summer’s theme is Songs Through the Decades.

The first show on July 22 at 7:30 pm is “Dance through the 70s.” Three of the biggest innovators of the disco style were the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, and KC and The Sunshine Band. Arrangements of these artists will be performed by The Collective—Deryl Gallant on bass, Alan Dowling on drums, and Ian Toms on guitar. They will be supported by Jocelyn Reyome, a student at Holland College School of Performing Arts from Massachusetts. Jocelyn is a multi-instrumentalist and singer. Special guest for the evening will be Liam Corcoran.

August 5 at 7:30 pm is “80s British Pop.” Interpreters for the evening will include headliner Rachel Beck. Rachel’s recent album features the #1 CBC song Reckless Heart. Supporting Rachel is pianist and singer-songwriter Kim Dunn from Nova Scotia. Special guest is North Rustico’s guitarist, Nick Gauthier. Nick has toured across Canada and currently resides in Ottawa.

On August 19 at 7:30 pm hear “Zoot Suits and Speakeasies, Music of the 30s and 40s.” The Amanda Jackson Band will be perform as a trio and will bring their own arrangements to some time-tested standards. Supporting them will be the multi-talented Mark Haines. Special guest for this show is ragtime piano player Max Keenlyside.
