Taking a break from Searching
After four seasons presenting over 140 performances of his musical, Searching For Abegweit, which celebrates everything PEI through his songs and stories, Island singer songwriter Lennie Gallant decided to put the show into dry dock while he works on other projects.
Says Gallant. ‘‘So many fans of the show told me they had planned to bring more family and friends to see it this year. I thought, however, that after four seasons on the Island and a successful Maritime tour, it might be time to take a break from it. I want to focus on a few new projects I have in mind, but hopefully Abegweit will sail again at some point.”
One of those projects is a new album Gallant will be releasing this summer called Time Travel. It is his first studio recording in nine years. Says Gallant, ‘‘My last few albums have been live recordings, which did quite well, but there is nothing like the kick of being in a recording studio, bringing a whole new batch of songs to life. I’m very excited about it!” Gallant’s last live album, Searching For Abegweit, won him Folk Album of the Year at the 2017 East Coast Music Awards.
Gallant is presently working with Island born and raised producer Daniel Ledwell on this project with his band members, Patricia Richard, Jeremy Gallant, and Sean Kemp. Guests artists include Rose Cousins, Jenn Grant, The Atlantic String Machine, The Fretless, Chris Corrigan and Mary Jane Lamond. The album should be out before the end of the summer with the official CD release concert being planned for his Indian River Festival performance on August 31.
Lennie is also busy with shows all over the East Coast, followed up with a Western Canada tour in the fall. Island summer dates include Rendez-vous Rustico, two sold out shows at the Trailside and the album launch at the Indian River Festival. He also will be lending a hand at a number of charitable shows.
