Celtic concerts at Beaconsfield and Orwell Corner

Ireland Meets Scotland returns for 2018. This high-caliber celebration of Celtic heritage, music and dance will be performed at two historic venues: Tuesday evenings to August 28 at Beaconsfield Historic House in Charlottetown, and Friday evenings to August 31 at Orwell Corner Historic Village in Orwell. All shows begin at 7:30 pm.

Ireland Meets Scotland tells the compelling story of Irish and Scottish immigrants leaving their homelands in the 1800s and meeting in the New World, many of them here on PEI. The story is told primarily through music and dance, with just enough prose and poetry to set the scenes in the minds eye of the audience.

The show features Colin and Tristan Jeffrey on fiddle, Amanda Mark on flute and tin whistle, Kevin Jeffrey on guitar and vocals, and Celtic dancers Marlys and Alexis Maclaren and Abigail Rogers. The family aspect of the show is highlighted by father/son musicians Kevin, Colin & Tristan, and mother/ daughter dancers Marlys & Alexis.

The Ireland Meets Scotland show is significant since it celebrates the Scottish and Irish heritage of PEI and new immigrants settling on PEI. The 2018 season will also be a reunion of the original cast from the show’s run during 1999-2002.

The nearby Macphail Homestead will be serving suppers featuring fresh local ingredients every Friday evening before the Orwell show, starting at 5 pm. Visitors can also book a Package Experience consisting of a wagon ride from Orwell Corner Historic Village to Macphail Homestead for supper, and a wagon ride back to Orwell Corner for the Ireland Meets Scotland Show. Info/reserve: Kevin Jeffrey, 902-314-3078, norseboat.com/IrelandMeetsScotland.html, 902-651-2789, www.macphailhomestead.ca
