Awards Gala, concerts, shows, parties and more from January 23–27 in Charlottetown

Credit Union Music PEI Week is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate Island musical artists and their accomplishments. It is the largest annual celebration of PEI’s music community. For the 18th year, Island artists and music industry professionals will be celebrated with the Music PEI Awards. 

From January 23 to the 27 with the support of Credit Union and so many funders and sponsors, Music PEI has put together a week of diverse shows. The festivities begin on Wednesday with The Credit Union Music PEI Week Kick-off Party complete with performances by a trio of last year’s winners. Alicia Toner, Liam Corcoran and Catherine MacLellan will each sing a few songs at The Guild in Charlottetown as part of the opening party complete with some munchies.

Thursday is the popular SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Concert at St Paul’s Church, Charlottetown, and features the nominees for Songwriter of the Year. They are Dennis Ellsworth, Dylan Menzie, Lennie Gallant, Meaghan Blanchard and Rachel Beck.

Friday is a busy night starting with early shows at the Pourhouse in Charlottetown with a roots/folk concert featuring Richard Wood and some of the other nominees for country and folk categories and a rock show at Evermore Brewery in Summerside with Little Cities and guest. Later that night take in an urban/electronic show at Baba’s Lounge.

Saturday starts in the afternoon with the multi-cultural Music Mosaic show at The Guild at 1:30 pm. The show will feature some of the Francophone Artist of the Year nominees along with the World Music Ensemble from Holland College’s School of Performing Arts. In the early evening The Guild will host Songs for a Winter’s Evening featuring Dennis Ellsworth, Jenni & the Hummingbird and more. Close out the night at Hunter’s Ale House with a great rock show featuring Death Valley Driver, Aron Scott Earthquake, Wil Allen and Little Cites.

Sunday is the day to hand out the awards. In the afternoon, nominees, sponsors and guests will get together at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel and celebrate at the Music PEI Awards Party.

Credit Union Music PEI Week comes to a close with the final concert at Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown at 8 pm. Take in performances by the top nominees Rachel Beck, Jenni & the Hummingbird and Meaghan Blanchard and the show will be hosted by Lennie Gallant.
