Just recently, 23 writers from across the region spent 5 days at the Haviland Club in Charlottetown working on scripts for Canadian feature films, television, and web series as industry professionals mentored the 3 groups in writing screenplays. The first 4 days of the event were filled with lectures, assignments, and one-on-one meetings; and the final day was spent with guest producers who formed a panel made up of Melissa Kajpust, Head of Creative Development for Super Channel; local producer, writer, director, Adam Perry; Alan Bacchus, Bell Media’s Harold Greenberg Fund; and Cheryl Wagner, Producer for Periscope Pictures. These producers as well as Peter Hall, CBC, Donna Davies, Ruby Tree Films, Brian Sharp, Mugisha Enterprises heard pitches from the participants and offered advice and support to the twenty-three hopefuls. The Island Media Arts Coop is already preparing for next year. Louise Lalonde is the Project Coordinator. The organizers and participants showed their appreciation to the sponsors on the final night of the event by hosting an industry dinner with several lobsters as special guests. Sponsors included Telefilm Canada, Innovation PEI, Super Channel, the Independent Production Fund, Bell Media, Cellar Door Productions, and the City of Charlottetown.
