Movie lover Dave Stewart has created a blog with the intent of compiling a list of the best Canadian films, and he needs the public’s help to do it. Stewart has created a blog called Maple Leaf Movies in order to “promote Canadian films, determine a roster of the country’s finest, and to explore the films on that list,” he says on his blog.

“In the end, the best that a list like this can do is to introduce people to films they may not have seen, and to help encourage the remembrance of outstanding work produced by our filmmakers.”

Stewart will be compiling the list based on titles that visitors to his website leave in the comments section of Maple Leaf Movies. In the fall, an online vote will take place to determine a list of the 25 Best Canadian Films. Movie lovers from outside Canada are invited to take part in both the nomination and voting process.

“I worked with Campbell Webster Entertainment a few years ago when we were in partnership with Copie Zero TV and Media out of Montreal. We were looking for TV ideas and I pitched this one, but it didn’t get very far,” explains Stewart. “I kind of put it on the back burner until recently when I got involved in a Facebook conversation about Canadian films begun by filmmaker Harmony Wagner, and that made me decide to take it on myself.”

Anyone who would like to contribute by nominating any number of Canadian films he or she feels belong on the list can do so at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. until midnight (AST) on August 31, 2014.
