Donna DaviesFilmPEI has announced the Film 4Ward program, an incubator program for film production and skill capacity building for both emerging and mid-career filmmakers. Leveraging industry expertise across PEI and Canada, participants will be trained by industry professionals through a series of workshops and job shadowing opportunities. Four filmmaking teams will be chosen in a juried process and given funding and support to complete their films.

The Film 4Ward program was designed to develop talent and content from emerging to mid-career PEI filmmakers to make them more competitive at a national and international level and forward the creative careers of these filmmakers in a meaningful and strategic way. From this program, creators will have calling card films they can use to enter international festival circuit/digital distribution and help them move their career forward to larger budget projects including feature films.

To give filmmakers the best possible chance at success FilmPEI will be bringing award winning documentary filmmaker Donna Davies to PEI to teach a short documentary writing workshop on September 29 and 30. And then writer Bretten Hannam, fresh from a win a TIFF, will be coming to PEI to teach a short narrative film writing workshop on October 6 and 7. These workshops are open to the public and FilmPEI encourages people intending to apply for Film 4Ward to attend. They also encourage producers, directors and writers looking for partners to apply to the program to reach out to Film PEI so they can help you find a team.

Film 4Ward is funded by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, through Innovation PEI and the Culture Action Plan, with additional funding provided by Telefilm Canada and CBC, and led by FilmPEI. For information go to www.filmpei.com.
