Four new workshops added for 2019

Jason Rogerson and Jason Arsenault won top prize at PEI Screenwriters’ Bootcamp 2018.FilmPEI has announce the addition of four workshops to be offered during this year’s PEI Screenwriters’ Bootcamp. Year thirteen of this event will see an increase in training opportunities for anyone interested in developing projects for all forms of screen-based entertainment.

Emerging and mid-career screenwriters, producers and production managers will participate in five days of intensive professional development and be part of networking activities with producers and broadcasters searching for their next feature films, documentaries, web and television series.

Bootcamp is open to all Canadians, and applicants compete for the available seats. The selection process is based on writing ability and feasibility of production for the idea submitted for either an adaptation or original idea for a film, a web or tv series, or a documentary.

“Our ultimate goal is to develop a pool of talented Canadian screenwriters and producers, and our exceptional success rate is proving that we are on the right track as more and more participants are seeing their projects to completion,” said Louise Lalonde, Project Manager.

FilmPEI will be offering seven workshops, four of which will delve into new areas of screenwriting and producing.

Workshops being offered are: Production Management.02 with Deb Patz; Beyond the Outline with Dennis Foon; Inside the Writers' Room with Cynthia Knight; and Écrire un court métrage with Guy Boutin; Get Your Story Straight with Tom Shoebridge; Writing the Next Draft with Sharon Buckingham; and the Road to Production with Brian Sharp and Donna Davies. Participants will also work with Jan Miller, Pitch Expert to hone their project pitches.

The Road to Production workshop is limited to teams of writers and producers with at least one of the members being a resident of PEI. At the end of the workshop these teams will pitch their ideas to a jury of broadcasters and funders as they vie for a $15,000 prize from Innovation PEI toward the creation of a proof of concept for their projects. All other workshops are open to all Canadians.

A panel on Cultural Appropriation with Dennis Foon, Screenwriter for Indian Horse, Renée Laprise, Executive Director of FilmPEI, and guests, is planned.

This professional development opportunity is made possible with support of Innovation PEI, Telefilm Canada, the Independent Production Fund, City of Charlottetown, broadcasters and distributors.

PEI Screenwriters’ Bootcamp takes place May 18 to 22 at the Haviland Club, Charlottetown, PEI. Details are available at www.peiscreenwritersbootcamp.net. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2019.
