Confederation Centre’s arts education programs begin a new season of dance umbrella this month, and for the first time a course in Afro-Jazz is on offer.

The public is invited to join School of Performing Arts graduate Dawn Ward for African-inspired, Caribbean-flavoured Jazz dance. Ward is a native of the Bahamas, and graduated from the Holland College/Confederation Centre Theatre Performance program in 2016. She has continued her studies at Acadia University and has now returned to the Island to complete her degree.

“I am thrilled that Dawn will be teaching her wonderful Afro-Jazz class with us at dance umbrella,” says Peggy Reddin, director of Arts Education at the Centre. “She was one of the guest artists for the Winterdance Festival last February, and the response of the students was so enthusiastic that we wanted to share that experience with other Island dancers.”

Held Sunday afternoons from 3:30 to 5 pm, this class is open to ages 14 to adult, with some previous dance experience required. For information contact Sarah Denman-Wood at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or via phone at 902-629-1175.
