Melissa KramerVictoria Playhouse has announced its 2018 Festival Season programming.

The season kicks off with the Canadian premiere of the acclaimed romantic comedy Dancing Lessons by Mark St. Germain. Dancing Lessons tells the story of a young professor on the Autism spectrum who hires an injured Broadway dancer to teach him how to dance. The production stars PEI’s own Melissa Kramer opposite Toronto-based actor Jeff Schissler.

Up next is the side-splitting comedy Myth of the Ostrich by up-and-coming Canadian playwright Matt Murray. Myth of the Ostrich took the festival circuit by storm in 2015 and has since been produced several times. Victoria Playhouse is excited to be mounting the Maritimes’ first production. Native Islander Charlotte Gowdy comes home from Stratford to direct Myth of the Ostrich. Johanna Nutter returns to the Playhouse stage alongside Melanie Piatocha, who recently relocated to PEI from Edmonton, and Renée Hackett, who was a member of the original cast.

Following a sold-out run in 2017, The Four Tellers bring their incomparable and hilarious storytelling show back to Victoria for three performances in September. The Festival Season wraps up with the original musical revue Fascinating Ladies written by and starring Catherine O’Brien. Co-starring Kelley Mooney and Allison Kelly, Fascinating Ladies is a tribute to the great girl groups of the 20th century and features songs and stories from the 1920s through the 1970s.

The popular concert series Musical Mondays is back for 2018, getting underway in energetic style with Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys. Other Musical Mondays’ acts include Cindy Church & Susan Crowe; Rum Ragged from Newfoundland; Madison Violet; New York Stories with former Nylon Micah Barnes and Holly Arsenault; Small Glories, the folk-rock duo from the Canadian Prairies; and Ian Sherwood, who Island audiences may remember as member of the popular ensemble The Jive Kings.

For tickets or more information, please contact the Victoria Playhouse box office at 1-800-925-2025 or 902-658-2025 or visit the website at victoriaplayhouse.com
