Starring Melissa Kramer and Jeff Schissler

Melissa KramerThe Victoria Playhouse will launch its 37th season with the Canadian premiere of the romantic comedy Dancing Lessons.

Written by American playwright Mark St. Germain, Dancing Lessons had its inaugural run in 2014 at Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

Dancing Lessons tells the story of Ever, a young geophysics professor on the Autism spectrum, who engages Senga, an injured Broadway dancer, to teach him how to dance for an upcoming awards gala where he will be honoured. But Ever will not be the easiest student, as he has never danced before and dislikes being touched. The relationship, which begins as a contract for services, evolves into something much deeper and more meaningful.

Dancing Lessons is directed by Ted Price who brought to the stage recent Victoria Playhouse hits like On Golden Pond; Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun; Sexy Laundry; and The Birds and The Bees

Ever is played by Jeff Schissler, a Toronto-based graduate of the Sheridan Music Theatre Performance program. Some of his favourite credits include Night of the Living Dead Live!; All Shook Up; A Year with Frog and Toad; Kiss of the Spider Woman; and The Full Monty. He performed in the world premiere production of PEI playwright John Connolly’s Marathon of Hope.

The role of Senga will be played by Melissa Kramer. Melissa is originally from Ontario but now calls the Island home. She is a graduate of the George Brown Theatre School and a founding member of the Prince Edward Island Pay-What-You-Can Theatre Festival. Favourite credits include Anne of Green Gables—The Musical and Mamma Mia at the Charlottetown Festival.

Dancing Lessons previews June 22 and 23, opens June 24, and will play six days a week until July 29. Tickets available at box office at 658-2025 or 1-800-925-2025 or at www.victoriaplayhouse.com.
