Scott Chandler at Florence Simmons
Islander Scott Chandler will bring the story of Hollywood icon Charlie Chaplin to the stage this summer in Oh, Charlie!
During the performance, Chandler will take the audience through Charlie’s life of constant contrast—rags to riches, Vaudeville to Hollywood, crazy to brilliant, loved to hated. Although best known for his silent comedy films, Chaplin was a composer, a lover, a writer, a director, a political activist and as WC Fields said “the best ballet dancer that ever lived.” Chandler will look at all these Chaplin roles in the show.
Chandler writes, directs and performs in the one-man show described as “the comedy, tragedy, music, dance, acrobatic, slapstick and gymnastics show,” As a former National gymnastics champion and Olympic training team member, his personality and athletic background lend themselves to impersonating one of the world’s greatest impersonators.
The show will be accompanied with a live musical performance by fiddler Courtney Hogan, along with singer-guitarist Norman Stewart, stepdancers and bagpipers.
The show takes place on July 29 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown. Tickets are available in advance at www.ticketpro.ca or 1-888-311-9090. Oh, Charlie! has partnered with the PEI chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association. A portion of each ticket sale, along with proceeds from a 50/50 draw and silent auction prior to the performance, will help raise funds to support the PEI charity.
