Edited by Sean Wiebe and Lori Gard with Kristopher Barnes
In Inside the Classroom: Stories of Curriculum and Creativity, edited by Sean Wiebe and Lori Gard with Kristopher Barnes, a collection of stories from Atlantic Canadian educators, the narrative of the teacher as both a professional and a unique individual gradually emerges. At times this narrative, written as life-story, is characterized by myriad questions and wonderings, targeting the individual educator’s courage when facing the stark realities of unemployment or teacher burnout. At other times, the narrative is a celebration of personal victories garnered through no small sacrifice—re-learning, so as to see the world through a child’s eye, along with re-discovery found in the sense of satisfaction that comes with having reached a professional epiphany. Each story is unique to the contributing teacher who penned the words, and collectively, the stories paint a visual for the reader about the life and work of our educators.
Inside the Classroom is available primarily as an electronic book with a print-on-demand option through the University of Prince Edward Island Bookstore. See its Local Books and Giftware section. It is produced by Island Studies Press and UPEI’s Faculty of Education.
