Highland Storm 2017: The Journey

Highland Storm 2017: The Journey opened recently in Summerside at The College of Piping. Directed by Ryan MacNeil and choreographed by Marielle Lesperance and Samantha MacKay, Highland Storm delivers on its promise to bring an exciting showcase of the College's disciplines and an entertaining package for all ages.

The cast of pipers, drummers, highland dancers and step dancers are wonderfully supported by musicians Christine Gallant (keyboards, harp and vocals), Peter Gallant (guitar, vocals and sound technician), and Trevor Profitt (fiddle). One of the world's foremost Gaelic and traditional singers Patricia Murray, rounds out the evening's fine performance. Ms. Murray's powerful stage presence completely captivated the audience.

The cast is made up of students and instructors of the College along with present and past supporters of the school. As the evening's program says, "...This year's cast has an energy and excitement that lives in their hearts." And that is reflected in each rendering. From the seemingly effortless highland dancers gliding through their dainty steps to the mesmerising flying beat of the four drummers, Highland Storm won over the packed house and left us on our feet wanting more. We all had Celtic blood pumping through our veins opening night. Hats off to James MacHattie, Principal and piping instructor and his creative team for making this production a not-to-miss event.

Seating is on a first come basis. My advice — get there long before the first bagpipe note sounds at 7:30 pm.
