Love lives on

The Story
Catherine MacLellan reflects on the life and career of her father Gene MacLellan, the brilliant P.E.I. singer-songwriter who penned two of the biggest selling singles of all time, "Snowbird" and "Put Your Hand In The Hand," and left behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire other songwriters more than 20 years after his death.

The Performance
MacLellan’s very personal account of her father’s life, a life in which great commercial success came at great personal cost, is deeply moving. Such is her ability to engage you that you share her joys as if they were your own when she describes his rise from humble beginnings to international stardom, the love and affection he showed his children and the kindness and generosity he showed not just to family and friends but to complete strangers. And you share her pain and sense of loss when she describes the battle he waged against depression until he could fight no more.

Best thing
MacLellan’s powerful and deeply heartfelt versions of "Snowbird," "Shilo Song," "If It’s Alright With You," "You Know What I Need" and a dozen other songs, backed up by her truly exceptional band, take on new meaning when you hear what inspired them.

Final thoughts
Through the anecdotes she shared and the songs MacLellan performed from her father’s songbook you may come away with a much greater appreciation of both Gene MacLellan the artist and Gene MacLellan the man. This show, which has been updated since last year, is a must-see.

On stage at PEI Brewing Company in Charlottetown Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 8 pm to September 19, 2018.
