2017 Youth Heritage Troupe enacts historic vignettes

With Canada 150 celebrations in full stride, the Confederation Players are enjoying their most dynamic season yet. The CN sponsored heritage troupe kicked off their official summer season on July 1 with the launch of their daily historic vignette, followed by their full program launch on July 4.

In early June, the full troupe toured to Montreal and Ottawa with CN, drawing accolades and ovations from leaders from across the country enjoying their performance at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference. The Players also performed on board a historic CN train, at two separate tree-planting events, on the steps of Parliament, and at Ottawa’s Inspiration Village.

Their daily historic vignette, From Sea to Shining Sea, is offered by donation, Tuesday to Saturday at 12:50 pm on the grassy lawn behind the library, found to the left of the outdoor amphitheatre. In the event of rain, the Players perform at the same time in the replica Confederation Chamber space found in the upper foyer at the Centre.

Historic walking tours of Queen Square and Great George Street will be offered Tuesday to Saturday, as of July 4, and can be purchased at the Visitor Information Centre at Founder’s Hall. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 11:30 a.m., the troupe sings Victorian standards alongside the Confederation Brass on the Centre’s Outdoor Plaza. Additional programming including the 1864 Pub Tour and well as private booking information can be found at confederationcentre.com/players.

The new troupe for 2017 features many returnees, as well as five new performers, including Islanders Melissa MacKenzie, Eden McFadden, and Aaron Ryder; New Brunswick native Guy Brun; and Luke Ignace of the Bahamas.  They join returning troupe members, Carly Billings, Kassinda Bulger, Marisa Dashney, Jacob Durdan, Dylan Gaudet, Ben Hartley, Alexandre Iannuzzi, and Will Millington. Returning as Artistic Supervisor is Cameron MacDonald alongside Company Manager Adam Gauthier. Fraser McCallum is program manager.
