shOUT PEI's Gender Sexuality Awareness Conference

McMillan Hall - UPEI

Saturday, April 21, 2018, 09:00am - 04:30pm

Free | Registration at 9 am | Workshops | Discussion panels | Presentations | Performance by Tanya Davis

GSAs once stood for Gay-Straight Alliances but the terminology is evolving along with the understanding and experiences of gender and sexuality. Be part of the conversation at shOUT! PEI’s 5th annual Gender Sexuality Awareness Conference on April 21 at UPEI's McMillan Hall. The day-long event will feature workshops, presentations and discussion panels around LGBTQ2S+ issues faced by Islanders.

Historically, GSAs have focused on junior high and high school students. shOUT PEI's goal is to engage the entire PEI LGBTQ2S+ community as well as their allies. Health care providers, parents, teachers and anyone else who wants to learn are encouraged to attend.

There will be various workshops including drag make-up and zine-making, presentations concerning LGBTQ2S+ mental health, how to start your very own GSA, and more. Discussion panels will run throughout the day about current issues within the community. Don't forget to check out QueerScape to see the plethora of talent possessed by queer Island artists.

This year’s GSA Conference will also feature a keynote performance by Island-raised artist, Tanya Davis.

There is no cost for this event. Registration for the workshops begins at 9 am with the conference running from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. If you want to volunteer, submit to QueerScape.
