Recital at the Kirk: Nansee Hughes, lyric coloratura soprano

Kirk of St. James

Wednesday, August 01, 2018, 12:10pm

There will be three concerts in the Summer Music at the Kirk series in August. The recitals are all on Wednesdays at 12:10 pm. The Kirk of St. James is located at 35 Fitzroy Street, Charlottetown. Donations are received to support the Kirk’s Choral Scholarships, a program in which four UPEI voice majors receive a scholarship to sing with the Kirk’s Senior Choir during the academic year.

Nansee Hughes, lyric coloratura soprano, performs on August 1 for a concert singing works by Moniuszko, Arditi, Dell’Acqua, Chopin, Lloyd Webber, Karlowicz, Floyd, and Lehar. Nansee is from Alberta and is excited to be singing in Charlottetown.

Jillian Clow, mezzo-soprano, performs on August 8. Originally from New London, PEI, Jillian has spent the last two years completing her Master of Music in Opera at UBC in Vancouver. She is looking forward to sharing selections from composers such as Rossini, Bizet, Mozart and de Falla. She is also performing some duets with her mother, Juliana Elsinga, soprano.

Isaac Shaw, horn, performs on August 22. Isaac, from Brackley, PEI, now lives and plays in Germany. The program will include music for horn and piano by German and Austrian composers.

Frances McBurnie, Director of Music at the Kirk, will assist in all three recitals. McBurnie is well-known on PEI for collaborative work.
