Confederation Players: Historical Reenactment

Charlottetown

Friday, August 03, 2018, 12:50pm

Tuesday–Saturday

The Confederation Players program is back for another season at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, following a 2017 season during which the troupe traveled to Fredericton, Montreal, and Ottawa in celebration of Canada 150.

Each year, the Confederation Players program brings together young historians and burgeoning performers from across the country to collaborate and build on their abilities.

As the Charlottetown interpreters gear up for 2018, its staff continue to renew the program. This year, five Islanders have joined: Jim McClean, Sam Rainnie, Jacob Rollwage, Grace Hickey, and Olivia King, as well as Eric Ollivier, an acting student of Toronto’s George Brown College. The new members will be joining the already existing team of Carly Billings, Ben Hartley, Dylan Gaudet, Guy Brun, Aaron Ryder, Maria Dashney, Eden McFadden, and Cameron MacDonald.

Through their summers at Confederation Centre, performing arts students from schools like George Brown, Sheridan College, and even the Holland College School of Performing Arts are able to develop their skills and even use their experience for credits toward their education.

As in each season, this group of fourteen interpreters will advance their professional and personal knowledge through improvisation training, lessons with UPEI Canadian history professors and Mi’kmaq elders, career-nurturing connections with Charlottetown Festival cast and crew, and countless other opportunities.

The company will offer their daily historic vignette From Sea to Shining Sea by donation, Tuesday to Saturday at 12:50 pm on the grassy lawn found to the left of the Centre’s outdoor amphitheatre.

Historic walking tours of Queen Square and Great George Street will also be offered Tuesday to Saturday, and can be purchased at the Visitor Information Centre at Founder’s Hall or from Confederation Centre’s Box Office. Additional programming and corporate booking information can be found at confederationcentre.com/players.
