Micah Barnes, former member of The Nylons, brings his show “New York Stories” to the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria on August 6. This concert will take you on a musical tour of The Big Apple with the Canadian Jazz crooner performing beloved chestnuts from the world of Broadway, Jazz and Doo Wop from legendary New York songwriters like Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Carole King and Burt Bacharach. Micah will be accompanied by Halifax-based jazz pianist Holly Arsenault.
The Small Glories, a dynamic folk duo, take to the stage on August 13. Cara Luft & JD Edwards hail from the Canadian Prairies and are a study in contrasts: Luft’s folkie yin is a perfect match for Edward’s rocker yang. The Small Glories is a partnership that celebrates tight harmonies, visceral live performances and guitar prowess.
Island favourites Jenn Grant and Daniel Ledwell make their Playhouse debut on August 20. Jenn Grant’s voice and songwriting have been celebrated the world over by critics and industry alike. Her music has been described as “captivating” by The Line Of Best Fit (UK), and “work of a painter born in paradise” by The Sydney Morning Herald (AU).
Ian Sherwood closes the concert series on August 27. Guitar, saxophone, huge songwriting and a voice that won him a 2013 Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Singer, Ian Sherwood Brings “The Light” to every stage he stands on. A born storyteller and a constant creator, his music dances the line between folk and pop.
