Evangeline Area Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival: Réveil

Abram Village

Saturday, September 01, 2018, 10:00pm - 12:00am

Acadian country music star Laurie LeBlanc and his band will play at “Le Djâble dans l’corps” on August 31, while Réveil will play at the Evangeline and Gabriel Dance on September 1 of the Evangeline Area Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival. Dances will start at 10 pm at Evangeline Recreation Centre. Doors open at 9 pm for those 19+.

Laurie LeBlanc is popular in his native Acadie; he occupies the top spots in the French country charts. His music combines country and Acadian styles and his seven albums and his innumerable concerts have helped him win awards for country artist of the year, singer-songwriter of the year, show of the year or album of the year during the Gala country francophone du Canada, the Étoiles Galaxie awards, Music NB Awards, SOCAN Gala and the FrancoFête en Acadie. L’Acadie Nouvelle named him the 2017 Cultural Personality of the Year.

Réveil is celebrating its 11th appearance at the Acadian Festival. The band is currently made up of Maurice Johnson on bass, Joey McKinnon on drums, Brian Hébert on electric guitar, Denise Daigle on fiddle, Richard Bourque on acoustic guitar, mandolin and banjo, Kevin Arsenault on acoustic guitar and vocals and Nancy Blanchard on vocals.

They’ve recorded four albums: Sans problem (2007), Ah! Qu'il faut beau! (2009), On y va!!! (2012) and Allez, buvez (2018). All original songs are by the brother-and-sister duo of Kevin Arsenault and Nancy Blanchard.

Once the band has finished setting up the stage Saturday afternoon, it will give a short show at 4 pm called “Come and Dance with Réveil.” Three young local dance troupes will join them.

The Festival will start August 29 at Club 50. Tyler’s DJ plays for a family dance for all ages at 6:30 pm followed by a teen dance for those aged 13 to 18 years in the same location at 8:30 pm.
