St. Peter's Cathedral

Admission by donation

Helios Vocal Ensemble, a five-voice a cappella classical ensemble based in Halifax, will once again visit Charlottetown on September 8 with their latest concert programme, “Madrigal Mystery Tour.” This group of highly trained singers will bring their exceptional blend and artistry to a wide variety of Renaissance music from England, Italy, France and Spain, including works by Morley, Janequin, and Monteverdi. The programme will also feature rare works by women composers including Maddalena Casulana and Vittoria Aleotti. The performance will take place September 8, 7 pm at St Peter’s Cathedral, All Souls Lane, Charlottetown. Admission is by donation.

Founded in 2015, Helios Vocal Ensemble has appeared in many of the region’s leading chamber music series, including the Indian River Festival, Cecilia Concerts, the Three Churches Festival and Musique Royale, and will perform in the Music Room Chamber Players series in the coming 2018–19 season. Members include Eszter Horvath (soprano), former music director at All Saints Cathedral, Halifax; Elisabeth Stones (soprano), National Youth Choir alumna; Andrew Pickett (alto), former lay clerk at Manchester Cathedral; Michael van der Gaag (tenor), National Youth Choir alumnus; and Spencer Gough (bass), Mount Allison University graduate in classical voice. Their début recording, An Illuminated Christmas, was nominated for Classical CD of the Year in 2018 by Music Nova Scotia, with a second CD of madrigals from England, Italy, France and Spain coming this fall.
